Daddy's Surprise Party
The kids really wanted to have a surprise party for Daddy's birthday this year. In the morning when he was out of the room, I told them, "Remember, today is Daddy's birthday. When he comes back into the kitchen, let's all sing Happy Birthday!"
Allison said, incredulously, "Today's his birthday?" She looked around. "Then where are the balloons??"
So we got balloons and cooked a special birthday dinner. Charlie helped a lot with the cooking, grating cheese and measuring ingredients. We had a lot of fun getting ready for the party.
We got a store-bought cake, because the children wanted a Superman cake that said "B-Man Rocks!" Unfortunately Superman is a discontinued superhero, so we went with balloons on the cake instead (but it still said B-Man Rocks!).
We needed a way to delay Daddy when he came in with Allison and David so that they could be part of the surprise party too. Charlie and Sarah each came up with a ruse: Sarah suggested we tell Daddy that there was a lost kitten that he needed to go look for. Charlie suggested we tell Daddy that Arthur Blank was on our street with six Falcons tickets. We went with Charlie's story, and Daddy set off down the street to search for Arthur Blank while we got set up and hidden. When Daddy came in, we all jumped out and yelled "Surprise!" It was so much fun, and he was so surprised!
