All About David

David was enjoying a popsicle outside this evening after dinner, and got really excited when he looked up at the sky and pointed at the moon.
"Ball! Ball! Ball!"
Me: "Moon."
David, still pointing to the moon: "Ball, Mommy! I see ball!"
Me: "No, moon."
David: "Balloon! Balloon!"
Me: "No, sweetie, moon!"
David: "Moon!"
5 minutes later, David looked at the sky: "I see ball! Ball! Ball!"

We went upstairs to change him into pajamas for bed. He was laughing and saying over and over, "Nana nana boo boo, I see you!" He also enjoys tickling me every time I change him - he reaches over, pulls up the side of my shirt, tickles my stomach, and cracks up.

Any time we put his food on his high chair tray before the utensils, he will yell excitedly, "I need spoon now!" When we give him a look, he'll stop and smile and say in a very sweet voice, "Please?"

He is extremely affectionate and very much wants to please us. He gets very sad when we express any disapproval. If I say "no" firmly, he will burst into tears, hug my legs, and say, "I love you, Mommy!" He also does that when he is happy: just smile and hug us and say, "I love you, Mommy!" and "I love you, Daddy!" He does this to Charlie, Sarah, and Allison too. In fact, whenever I say to David, "You're cute," he says, "Charlie's cute too!"

Friday night when we were driving home from dinner, David started singing Maybe (from "Annie") to himself in the car. It occurred to me that this is probably not typical 21-month-old behavior, unless the 21-month-old happens to have Sarah and Allison for older sisters!!

The Marathon

We did it!
(Despite record high temperatures in Atlanta on March 25 of 89 degrees)

Bryant: 26.2 miles

Tracey: 13.1 mi

Before leaving for the race:
Mommy stopping for some love along the way:

Daddy running strong at mile 24.5 (uphill):
Daddy continues, with Charlie cheering him on:
Ms. Kendra takes the kids out to cheer, and finds a really fun playground!

Harry Potter

It was inevitable, wasn't it?

Charlie checked out the first Harry Potter book from the school library on Friday.
He finished it Saturday morning.

Later he started the second Harry Potter book.
He finished it this evening. So he read the first two books in a combined four days.
(He would have finished it faster if it weren't for that pesky marathon on Sunday!)

He is really enjoying the stories. Prepare for Hogwarts and Quiddich references when you talk to him!

Aunt Susan Visits

We had a lovely visit with Aunt Susan on Thursday. Allison immensely enjoyed seeing her, and bossing around her godmother with frequent orders of "Push me higher!" on the swings. They were very cute together.

Allison and Susan enjoying each other's company:
Susan reported hearing David say about 125 words, of which approximately 80 were "ball":

Why is David laughing? THIS is what was just beyond the camera:
Thanks for visiting, Aunt Susan!

Body Parts

Sarah was taking a shower after soccer and I walked in to the bathroom and called through the curtain to tell her what in particular to wash thoroughly. I mentioned her armpits, then asked if she knew what those were. She said yes.

A moment later she called out, "Do I have knee-pits, Mama?"

How Pretty Am I?

Me, to Sarah, after drying her hair: Oh Sarah, you look gorgeous. You are the prettiest girl ever!
Sarah: I am?
Me: Absolutely!

Sarah: Prettier than Carrie Underwood?
Me: Oh yes!
Sarah: Prettier than a queen?
Me: Definitely!
Sarah: Prettier than Mary?
Me: Mary? You mean the Mother of God?
Sarah: Yes.
Me: Mmmmh. Well that's a tricky one.
Sarah, giggling: Yeah. That is a tricky one!

The Wearing o' the Green

The Mackadorables donned their green for the church Saint Patrick's Day party. They had a great time! There was music, including a rousing sing-along of "Ratlin' Bog" led by Mommy, Sarah, and Samantha. There was dancing, including some authentic Irish step-dancing by award-winning dancer Mommy, who then taught the kids and adults an 8-hand reel and taught the children to dance their back-2-3's. And there were crafts, so the children made Celtic crosses. It was a rockin' party!

March Mackey Madness

The Tornadoes' basketball season came to an end for our two MVPs with a season-ending parent/child scrimmage and a banquet for each team.

Kids beat Parents, and not only because parents had to shoot left-handed and from outside the key.

One playa works on her moves, on and off the court:

One cute boy gets a trophy from Coach Daddy. (And his teammate Rachel gets a trophy from her daddy, the assistant coach Perry.):

One SuperFan petitions the league to make it a Parent/Child/Younger Siblings scrimmage:

And one fan is just waiting for the banquet!

MVP

Sarah: What does MVP stand for?
Me: Ask Charlie. He can tell you.

Sarah, to Charlie: What does MVP stand for?
Charlie: Most, ... uh, Most Gullible Player.

(Isn't he a little young for this??)

A Beautiful Day

Me, to Bryant: It's a beautiful day to go for a run!
Allison: I think it's a beautiful day not to go for a run!

Leslie Who?

Sarah, at church, just after Communion, whispering: Mommy, see that woman going up to see the priest? The one with the sort of orange-y hair?
Me: Yeah?
Sarah: I think her hair is pretty. It looks kind of like Leslie's.
Me: Whose?
Sarah: Leslie's.
Me: Leslie?
Sarah: Yeah. You know, from American Idol?

The Rest of the Story

Charlie had an assignment in school: finish the following story, using words from the word bank.

One day, Randy was walking down Main Street. A crowd of people ran past. "Run!" one shouted. "Duckzilla is coming!"

Write what happened next.

Word Bank:
scared
pond
brave
ocean
huge
proud
webbed
gigantic
enormous
feathers

Here is what Charlie wrote:

Randy tried to act brave, but Duckzilla was too big. "I can't believe that Duckzilla is so big," said Randy. Duckzilla had gigantic webbed feet and huge, enormous feathers. Randy tried to run away, but his dog's leash got tangled to his legs! He fell down! It looked as if Randy was doomed!

But all of a sudden, Superman picked up Randy! They flew over an ocean, but Superman didn't look where he was going and ran into an airplane and dropped Randy into the ocean and he drowned. Just kidding. He parachuted to the ground. (I wasn't kidding about Superman crashing into an airplane)
The End.
