Ballet, In Its Simplest Form

Allison: When I grow up, I want to be a ballerina!
Me: Oh! I haven't heard that one before.
Allison: Can we pretend we'll be ballerinas together when I grow up?
Me: Sure! ... There's only one problem: I'm already a grown-up and I don't know how to do ballet.
Allison: Oh, that's easy. You just spin around in fancy shoes.
Me: Oh. I can do that.
Allison: Me too.

Everything I Have Is a Gift From God

Allison, admiring her Bambi pj's: Where did we get these pj's?
David: From God! From God!
Me (laughing): Um, no. We bought them at the Disney Store.
David: From Daddy?
Me: No. Just from the Disney Store.

Where Butterflies Sleep

Allison, at bedtime: How come towels don't have to go to sleep?
Me: Because they're not alive. Only living things sleep. Now go to bed.

Allison, a few nights later, at bedtime: How come living things have to sleep?
Me: Because their bodies need rest, and their brains need rest. And you know what else? You grow while you're sleeping!

Allison: Well, where do butterflies sleep?
Me: Um, in trees, mostly.
Allison: And in their chrysalis?
Me: Yes! How did you know that?
Allison: I just knew it. And you know what happens when they sleep in their chrysalis?
Me: What?
Allison: They turn into butterflies!

Pumpkin Head

Me, to David: Good night, pumpkinhead.
David: I not Pumpkin Head! I David.

We were sad to see Sydney and Auntie head back to Boston, but a lot of people will be meeting them with kisses when they get home! And they have a couple of Mackadorables in tow to continue the fun. Allison, David and I can't wait to join you next week!

Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere!

David Turns 2!

We closed out birthday month by celebrating the most recent birth: David.

We had a cookout with our friends the Hughes and the Barnetts. After all the singing of "Happy Birthday" David has done over the past few weeks, he was excited that it was directed at him this time.

Mommy made a delicious cake that looked like a giant hamburger. David loved it!

David's friend Hudson enjoying his "happy cake."

David is savoring his gifts. He only likes to open one at a time, then play with it for a long time. At this rate he will finish opening his gifts by Christmas.

Sarah's Pool Party

Sarah celebrated her birthday with all her friends at a pool party! It was a blast. Charlie was a real trooper to come despite being rather sick. He said he wanted to come so that neither of us had to miss Sarah's party staying home with him.

Sarah was in hog heaven to have so many friends at the pool. It's fun being six!

Sarah Turns 6!

Happy Birthday to Sarah! She enjoyed her special day. She chose her favorite restaurant for dinner and all 4 children ordered pancakes. We came home for some delicious birthday cake, made by Daddy, and to open some wonderful presents!!

Spies, Spies, Spies, Yeah (Charlie's Birthday Party)

Charlie had an awesome birthday party!

He invited his friends over for a sleepover mystery party. Daddy set up an elaborate mystery with lots of clues to lead them to the ultimate prize of a buried treasure chest, which was full of jewels. (Well, OK, ring pops, but that's more fun anyway!!!) The FBI did their work: mystery solved, case closed, treasure eaten.

After pizza, ice cream cake, and a rowdy game of Clue, Jr., the detectives were ready to call it a night. They stayed up late but still were able to rouse themselves for a pancake breakfast.

They had a great time!
